# Get a phone number

> Verify your business once, search for a number and request it, or ask our team outside India. What a number costs, how the first month is charged and refunded, and how to delete one.

Source: https://docs.amomic.in/channels/phone-numbers

---

A phone number lets your agent take and make real calls. Getting one is a request, not an instant purchase, because phone numbers are regulated. In India you verify your business once, then search for a number and send it for review. Outside India you tell our team where you want a number and they set it up with you. Either way, once the number is ready you choose the agent that answers it.

**Who can do it:** owners and admins, on **Starter** or **Growth**. Submitting business verification, requesting a number, attaching one and asking for a release are all admin actions on the server, so a member gets *Administrator access is required.* On **Free**, **Channels → Phone / Voice** shows *Give your agent a phone number* and an upgrade link instead.

## What a number costs

| | India (INR workspaces) | Elsewhere (USD workspaces) |
|---|---|---|
| Each number, per month | **₹399** | **$3.99** |
| Included with **Growth** | 1 number | 1 number |
| Included with **Starter** | none | none |

- **The first month is charged when you send the request**, from your prepaid [credits](/operate/credits). If your plan's included number covers it, nothing is charged.
- **If the request is not approved, or the number cannot be set up, the charge is refunded** to your credits automatically.
- If your credit balance cannot cover the first month, the request is refused with *A phone number costs ₹399 per month. Add credits to request one.* Add credits on **Billing**, then send it again.
- After the first month, each number is charged per month from credits, for whole months. There is no proration.

::: note "No purchase happens yet" is about the carrier
The confirm step says *Your selection goes to the Amomic team for review. No purchase happens yet.* That means we have not bought the number from the carrier. The first month is still taken from your credits at that moment, and comes back if the request is rejected.

## In India: verify your business once

Before your workspace can search for numbers, it needs verified business details on file. You do this once per workspace. Every number you request afterwards goes straight to search.

::: steps

::: step Open Settings → Compliance

The **Phone number compliance** card says what you need. Choose **Add compliance details**. The **Compliance** tab only appears for workspaces based in India.

:::

::: step Fill in the four fields

| Field | What to enter |
|---|---|
| **Alias** | A short name for this profile, usually your brand. |
| **Legal name** | Your registered entity name, *exactly as on your registration document*. |
| **Registration certificate** | Certificate of Incorporation or Udhyam. |
| **Tax proof** | GST certificate or Business PAN. |

Each file can be a PDF, PNG or JPEG of up to 15 MB. All four are required.

:::

::: step Submit for verification

Choose **Submit for verification**. A person reviews it, usually the same business day and within 5 business days. While it is under review, the Phone / Voice page shows *Compliance verification in progress* with a **View status** link. You are told in the console and by email when it is done.

:::

:::

![The Add compliance details dialog with Alias Veloria Home, Legal name Veloria Home Appliances Private Limited, and upload areas for the registration certificate and tax proof](https://docs.amomic.in/screens/voice/compliance-dialog.light.webp)

*Settings → Compliance → Add compliance details.*

| Badge | What it means |
|---|---|
| **Under review** | Submitted. Number search stays locked. The card shows Submitted → Under review → Verified. |
| **Verified** | Number search is unlocked for the workspace. The card links to **Request a phone number**. |
| **Rejected** | The reason is shown. Choose **Fix & resubmit**, correct it and submit again. The review starts fresh. |

You cannot change a submission while it is under review. Wait for the result.

::: warning The legal name must match the document
This is the most common reason for a rejection. If the certificate says "Veloria Home Appliances Private Limited", enter exactly that, not "Veloria Home" or "Veloria Home Appliances Pvt Ltd".
:::

## In India: search and request a number

::: steps

::: step Open the request dialog

On **Channels → Phone / Voice**, choose **Get a number** (top right) or the **+** on the **Numbers** rail. A *Get a phone number* link elsewhere in the console opens the same dialog.

If verification is not finished, the dialog says so instead of showing search: *One-time verification required* (with **Complete verification**), *Verification in progress*, or *Verification needs another look* (with the reason and **Fix & resubmit**).

:::

::: step Search

Pick a **Country** (your workspace's country comes first) and, if you care about the digits, type them in **Digits (optional)**. The digits are found **anywhere in the number**: `777` finds a number ending in `7775` as readily as one with `777` in the middle. Choose **Search**.

- Pasting a full number works. A leading `+` and the country code, such as `+91 80 4753`, are dropped, because every number in the list shares them. Spaces and dashes are ignored.
- Without a `+`, every digit counts: `91` looks for numbers containing `91` after the country code.
- Leave the field empty to see everything available.

Results come 20 at a time. The line above them says how many match in total, such as *Showing 20 of 1,284 numbers with 777*, and **Show more** loads the next 20. The digits you searched for are highlighted, and each result shows its city and region.

:::

::: step Select one number and send it

Choose **Select** on the number you want. The confirm step shows it with its place and what happens next. Choose **Send request**. The toast says *Request sent to our team for review.*

*Digits are matched anywhere in the number and highlighted in each result.*

### Why a request can be refused straight away

| Message | What to do |
|---|---|
| *This number is already in your workspace.* | It is already on your **Numbers** rail. |
| *This number belongs to another workspace.* | Choose a different number. |
| *This number isn't available to request. Please search again and choose another number.* | Search again. |
| *A request for this number is already under review.* | Wait for the first request. |
| *Complete compliance verification to request phone numbers.* | Finish [verification](#in-india-verify-your-business-once). |
| *A phone number costs ₹399 per month. Add credits to request one.* | Add credits, then send the request again. |

## Outside India: ask our team for a number

If your workspace is based outside India, there is no verification step and no number search. **Get a number** opens a short form instead, and our team sets the number up with you, including any checks the carrier needs.

::: steps

::: step Fill in the form

| Field | |
|---|---|
| **Country** | Required. Your workspace's country comes first. |
| **City or area** | Required. Where callers should see a local number. Up to 80 characters. |
| **Contact phone** | Required. A number our team can reach you on, with the country code. |
| **Best time to reach you** | Optional, such as "Weekdays, 10am–1pm your time". |
| **Notes** | Optional. What the number is for, and anything the carrier may ask about. Up to 1,000 characters. |

:::

::: step Send the request

Choose **Send request**. The first month is charged now and refunded if we can't arrange a number; it is free if your plan includes one. The toast says *Request sent. Our team will contact you to set up your number.*

:::

:::

![The Request phone number dialog for a workspace outside India: Country United Arab Emirates, City or area Dubai, a contact phone, best time to reach you and notes, with Send request](https://docs.amomic.in/screens/voice/request-assisted.light.webp)

*Outside India the dialog asks where you want a number and how our team can reach you.*

You can have one request with our team open at a time. A second one is refused with *You already have a number request with our team. We'll be in touch.* While it is open, the **Numbers** rail shows a row such as *Number in Dubai, AE* with *With our team*. Hover it to see the contact number we will call.

If an old link takes a workspace outside India to **Settings → Compliance**, it shows *No verification needed in your country*.

## Following a request

Open requests appear as dashed rows under your numbers on the **Numbers** rail (or in an **On its way** card before you have any number). The page checks for changes every 15 seconds while a request is open.

| Row says | What it means |
|---|---|
| **Under review** | Waiting for our team. |
| **Setting up** | Approved. The number is being bought and configured. |
| The reason, or **Not approved** | Rejected. The first month was refunded. |
| **Needs attention — our team is on it** | Approved, but setup failed. Our team follows up; the first month is refunded. |
| **With our team** / **Set up by our team** / **Not arranged** | The same three outcomes for a request outside India. |

You are notified in the console and by email when a request is received, rejected, and when the number is ready. When it is ready, the page also shows *{number} is ready. Choose the agent that answers it.* and the number moves into the rail with the state **No agent**. Next, [choose the agent that answers it](/channels/phone-workspace#choose-the-agent-that-answers).

Finished requests stay visible for 7 days, then drop off the rail.

## Add a number our team set up for you

If our team has already set up a number on the Amomic platform for your workspace, choose *Already have a number on the Amomic platform? Add it* at the foot of the **Numbers** rail. In **Add a platform number**, enter the **Phone number** with its country code and choose **Add number**. New numbers always come from **Get a number**; this is only for a number we have told you about.

## Delete a number

Deleting a number is reviewed by our team, just like getting one.

::: steps

::: step Open the Number tab

Select the number on the rail and open **Number**.

:::

::: step Request deletion

Under **Delete number**, choose **Request deletion**, then **Send deletion request**. *Calls continue normally while the request is reviewed.*

:::

:::

![The Number tab of +912262341187 showing Number details and a Delete number card with Deletion request under review; the header badge reads Deletion requested](https://docs.amomic.in/screens/voice/phone-number-tab.light.webp)

*While deletion is reviewed, the number shows Deletion requested and keeps answering.*

While the request is open, the number shows **Deletion requested**, keeps answering with its current agent, and its answering agent cannot be changed. The card reads *Deletion request under review*, then *Deletion request approved — release in progress*. When the number is released, the page says *{number} has been removed.* If the request is not approved, the card shows the reason.

A number belongs to one workspace. To move it, delete it here and request it again from the other workspace, with no guarantee it is still available.

## Using a number as caller ID

The numbers you own are also the numbers you can call out from, and the agent on the number is the agent that speaks. See [Outbound calls](/channels/outbound-calls).

## Troubleshooting

::: details The dialog shows "One-time verification required" instead of search
Business verification has not been submitted, or it was rejected. Open **Settings → Compliance**.
:::

::: details Search finds nothing
No available number in that country contains those digits. Use fewer digits, or none. A country with no stock says *No numbers available*.
:::

::: details I was charged ₹399 for a request
That is the first month. It is refunded automatically if the request is rejected or the number cannot be set up. If your plan includes a number that you have not used yet, there is no charge.
:::

::: details My request has been Under review since yesterday
Requests are reviewed by a person on business days. If it has been longer than 5 business days, contact support.
:::

::: details The number is ready but nobody answers it
A new number has no agent. Its rail row says **No agent**. Choose one under [Agent & voice](/channels/phone-workspace#choose-the-agent-that-answers).
