Customise the widget
Every setting in the web deploy wizard's Identity and Appearance steps — name, welcome message, colours, launcher, greeting bubble, Remember conversations and restart — and what visitors see in the panel.
Everything a visitor sees in the widget is set in the console, in the Identity and Appearance steps of Deploy to the web. You never edit the snippet: the tag stays as it was pasted, and the widget reads its configuration each time a page loads.
Who can do it: owners and admins. Open the agent, click Deploy → Web widget (or Edit settings on its live web deployment). See Install the widget for the whole wizard.
The Live preview beside every step is your real widget, answering from your agent. It updates as you type. Reset chat clears the test conversation. Preview conversations don't count toward your plan allowance. The preview is hidden on narrow screens.
When changes go live
Identity and the colour, font, theme, position and launcher on Appearance are saved when you click Continue on that step, and a live widget shows them on the next page load. The greeting bubble, Remember conversations, restart and the lead form are saved only when you click Save changes (or Set live) on the Install step. See When your changes reach visitors.
Identity #
| Setting | What it does | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Bot name | Shown in the chat header. This is the agent's own name, so changing it here renames the agent everywhere in the console, not just on the widget. Left blank, it saves as Assistant. |
60 characters |
| Company name | Shown under the bot name in the header. Left blank, the header shows Online. |
120 characters |
| Welcome message | "The first thing visitors see when the chat opens." Left blank, it saves as Hi! How can I help?. |
500 characters |
| Suggested questions | Tappable chips under Quick questions, shown until the visitor sends a first message. Tapping one sends it. The console has three fields. | 3 in the console |
| Profile picture | Shown in the chat header. Keep the default (a sparkle on purple) or Upload your own. | PNG, JPEG, WEBP or SVG, up to 2 MB |
If the wizard found your website, the step opens with "Filled from your brand — edit anything." Empty fields are filled from your knowledge base and website: company name, bot name, welcome message, suggested questions, and your site's icon as the profile picture. Anything you've already set is left alone.
Write the welcome message to say what the agent is good at. "Ask me about your appliance, warranty, or a service visit" tells a visitor what to ask, and steers them away from what it can't answer. Use the suggested questions for the three things your support team is asked most, in your customers' words.
Appearance #
| Setting | Values |
|---|---|
| Brand color | A six-digit hex value with a leading #, for example #0F766E. Pick it with the colour swatch or type it. Anything else stops the step with "Brand color must be a hex value like #6E56CF." |
| Font | A font name, for example Inter. |
| Theme | Auto, Light or Dark. Auto follows the visitor's own system setting. |
| Position | Bottom left or Bottom right. |
| Launcher button | "The floating button visitors click to open the chat." Nine icons — Chat, Bot, AI assistant, Smile, Support, Conversation, Instant, Wave, Question — or Custom to upload your own (PNG, JPEG, WEBP or SVG, up to 2 MB). |
The launcher is painted in your brand colour; there's no separate launcher colour. Text and icons on top of the brand colour are chosen automatically for contrast, so a mid-tone colour stays readable.
When the wizard matched your website's look, the step says "Matched from your website — tweak anything below." Treat it as a starting point.
Reopening the wizard re-reads your website
Each time you open the wizard, it pre-fills Brand color and Font from your website again. If you chose something else, check them before you click Continue or Save changes.
Auto is usually the right theme
Auto looks intentional on a dark-mode laptop at night and a bright phone at noon. Pin Light or Dark only if your site is always one or the other.
Greeting bubble #
A short line that pops up beside the closed launcher, so visitors notice the chat. Tapping it opens the chat.
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Greeting bubble | Off by default. Turn it on to show the bubble. |
| What it says | The line itself, up to 60 characters, with a counter. Default How can I help you?. An empty line shows "Add a line, or turn the bubble off." |
How visitors see it:
- It appears about two and a half seconds after the page loads.
- It has a small ×. Once a visitor dismisses it, it stays away for them on that browser.
- It isn't shown while the chat is open, or to a visitor who already has a conversation.
Keep it an invitation: "AC making noise? Ask us" works next to a small round button; a full sentence wraps into a wall on a phone.
Remember conversations #
With Remember conversations on, a visitor who refreshes the page or comes back later sees their conversation again, instead of an empty window. The transcript is kept by Amomic-AI; the visitor's browser only holds an id.
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Remember conversations | On by default. Off, every page load starts a new conversation. |
| Remember for | 24 hours, 7 days (recommended) or 30 days, "Measured from the latest message in the conversation." After that, the visitor starts fresh. |
What else to know:
- The widget restores up to the last 100 messages.
- A conversation that is with a person on your team (a live handoff) always reconnects, even when this is off.
- Clearing site data or using a private window always starts a new conversation.
- No message text is stored in the visitor's browser either way.
Restarting a chat #
With Let visitors restart the chat on (the default), the header has a Start a new chat button. It asks "Start a new chat? This clears the messages here." with Cancel and Start over, then starts a genuinely new conversation. Details the visitor already gave in the lead form are kept.
The button isn't available during a live handoff, so a conversation with your team can't be orphaned.
A refresh is not a restart: with Remember conversations on, a refresh brings the same conversation back.
The lead form #
The Ask for contact details settings are at the bottom of the Appearance step. They have their own page: Capture leads.
What visitors see in the panel #
| Part | What it is |
|---|---|
| Header | Profile picture, bot name, and company name (or Online). Buttons: Start a new chat (if restart is on), Expand for a larger panel on wide screens, and Close. |
| Messages | The welcome message first, then the conversation. While the agent works it shows progress, such as Fetched the details. Each visitor message shows its time and a delivery tick. |
| Composer | Placeholder Ask anything…. An image button appears on paid plans. While a required lead form is waiting, it reads Fill in the details above to start…. |
| Footer | Powered by Amomic-AI. |
On a phone, the panel opens full-screen.
Image upload #
On paid plans, visitors can attach a photo to a message — the difference between "my AC is leaking" and a picture of the leak. The agent looks at the image and answers what it shows; text sent with it is the question.
| Formats | JPEG, PNG, WEBP, GIF |
| Maximum size | 5 MB |
| Plans | Every paid plan. Not on Free, and not while billing is suspended. |
There is nothing to switch on: the image button appears when your plan includes it. What a visitor can see:
| Message | Cause |
|---|---|
| "Please choose a JPG, PNG, WEBP or GIF." | Any other file type, including PDFs and iPhone HEIC photos. |
| "That image is over 5 MB." | Too large. |
HEIC is the common surprise
iPhones save photos as HEIC by default. Most sharing paths convert them to JPEG, but a file picked straight from Files may not be. When a visitor says "it won't send the photo", that is usually why.
What the agent's answers can contain #
The widget renders formatted answers: bold, italic, code, links and images, bulleted and numbered lists (including nested ones), small headings, quotes, tables and code blocks. Bare URLs become links.
The panel is narrow, so short paragraphs and bullet lists read best. If answers come out too dense, ask for that in the agent's instructions.
What you can't change #
- The attribution.
Powered by Amomic-AIcan't be hidden on any plan. - Custom CSS. The widget renders in an isolated shadow root, so your site's styles can't reach it — and you can't restyle it beyond these settings.
- Size and placement. You choose the corner, not the coordinates or the panel size. Visitors can use Expand.
- Fixed wording:
Ask anything…,Quick questions, andOnlinewhen there's no company name.
